Moving Target, also Dan's music publishing company, is an ensemble of musicians featuring Jay Heath on saxophones, flute, and vocals; Dan on guitars, keyboard, harmonicas, and lead vocals, and Jeff Dillon on percussion. See Band Bios below for more details about the band members.
Regulars at Sharky's on the Pier, Moving Target started as a "fill in" band on Sunday evenings at the Longboat Key Hilton when someone else couldn't make the gig. They quickly became the band of preference and branched out to become one of the area's leading groups. Moving Target performs at popular night spots, large corporate functions, music festivals, and private clubs and parties.
Dan Crawford grew up in Flint, Michigan, where he trained vocally from age four. He took up the guitar at age 12, then later keyboards and harmonica and started playing in various bands and writing songs. He moved to Florida in 1977 as a soloist and helped form the band “Overture” in 1980. He has recorded two solo CDs (“Present Tense” and “Frame Of Mind”) , one CD with “The Jeff Adams Band”, and one CD with The Tapwater Conchs. Currently, he divides his time between solo performances and the band “Moving Target”.
Jay Heath is a sax virtuoso who's sound adds a distinctive jazz edge to the Moving Target sound.
Jeff Dillon is local Florida native and has been playing drums since he was 13 years old. His percussion drives the sound of Moving Target. Performances include dance bands, theatre productions, parades, ethnic and jazz festivals, concerts, television, and studio recordings.
